Out of the Past Synopsis :

De voormalige privé-detective Jeff Bailey denkt als garagehouder in een klein dorp zijn criminele verleden achter zich gelaten te hebben, maar zijn toenmalige opdrachtgever, de vermogende beroepsgokker Whit Sterling, weet hem te traceren. Whit wil Jeffs speurtalenten inhuren om zijn onweerstaanbare vriendin Kathie Moffat, die er met zijn geld ter waarde van $ 40.000 vandoor is gegaan, op te sporen. Whit wil zowel Kathie, ondanks dat ze op hem heeft geschoten, en het gestolen geld terug. Jeff gaat met tegenzin akkoord, maar al snel blijkt hij zich heel wat op de hals gehaald heeft en lijkt er geen weg terug te zijn.
